The incident occurred at the Hitchcock School and Church in Scarsdale on Friday afternoon.
After speaking with an employee at the Hitchcock School, it was determined that a Budget truck with an affixed trailer had struck and “heavily damaged” the stone wall while attempting to exit the lot.
Scarsdale Police said that the driver was using the Hitchcock School and Church parking lot as a turn-around and was not there for any business with the church.
According to police, investigators surveilled security camera footage, and it was determined that the driver attempted to exit the lot and cut too close to the stone wall, striking it and getting stuck.
The operator - who was described as a white man with brown hair - then exited the vehicle, and removed a Mercedes Benz crossover vehicle from the trailer, parking it in a parking spot while attempting to unhitch the trailer.
The driver was unable to unhitch the trailer, and created additional damage to the wall as he pulled away and fled the scene. Minutes later, police said that the driver returned to the area and took off in the Mercedes. The incident remains under investigation.
